TRANSFORMERS

If you checked my favorite media page, you probably noticed that I'm Quite Very Normal about these giant robots.

I got into transformers when I was a kid, through the live action movies (Bayverse) WHICH ARE BAD IMO. DO NOT START WITH THE BAYVERSE MOVIES IF YOU ARE NEW TO THE FRANCHISE PLEASE. Back then I wasn't very into it but I really liked the concepts of the transformers as a whole

Fast forward to my teens, I watched the Transformers Prime animated show and that's when the big robot brainrot started. I wanted to see everything the world of transformers had to offer, so I started watching the other shows and even read some comics (IDW).

I still have a long way to go, there are many TF shows I haven't watched entirely (Earthspark, Beast Wars etc) and other comics as well (TF Marvel), but I'll get to it someday!

Little sidenote: There's probably a shitton of grammar errors in this shrine since I errrmm didn't check if everything was alright, so if you see errors n stuff you know why

Why transformers?

Transformers is that kind of franchise that has many, many, MANY continuities. Every transformers shows, every comics, every movies, will tell a different story about the cybertronians, their world, their society and even how their war started.

Which means that while some universes may not be appealing to some, there are others that will definitely be more enjoyable, depending on the person's tastes and what they are looking for.

There's genuinely so many interesting aspects to explore in transformers media, I personally loved the IDW 2005 comics because it really went deep into the worldbuilding of cybertronian society. (Although there are still a lot of issues in the IDW comic run I'm ngl)

(Such as plotholes, inconsistencies, story/character developpment that went too fast and isn't satisfying etc...)

WARNING; AUTISTIC YAPPING MOMENT!!!

Characters backstory and lore may also vary depending on the universe, for exemple in Transformers Prime, before he became "Optimus Prime", the leader of the autobots used to be a data clerk named Orion Pax. In another world for example, Orion Pax was a cop (yeah I'm ngl I'm not a fan of this Optimus ^^'...). Every Optimus will have a different personality, personally I love "old silly man but traumatized by war" OP.

But throughout many universes, there is one core element that remains amongst the different Orions, and it's distress and sadness towards the state of their world, where there is often inequality and oppression (in many continuities, there is an awful caste system that dictates which job and life you will lead depending on the alt mode of a cybertronian (what they turn into). In the IDW comics, this ideology was given a name: Functionism

Some characters remains the same personality wise across continuities, such as Starscream, the cunning air commander of the Seekers, always looking for ways to betray Megatron and become the leader of the decepticons. Although in some continuities, Starscream calms down with his old shtick and decides to change for the better (IDW comics and Armada for example) (he's still a little shit in IDW tho)

Decepticons? Autobots?

The conflict between the autbots and the decepticons can be found in each continuity, it's a major plot point in every transformers story, whether said conflict happened in the past or is currently ongoing (or will happen in the future).

The decepticons and the autobots are factions. Prior to the creation of the two groups, they were all but regular cybertronians, citizens basically, they aren't different mechanical species or races. The reason behind their creation of said factions and their intent varies depending on the universe in which the story takes place.

In some continuities (IDW,TFP), the decepticons were workers/gladiators on the bottom of the social hierarchy who wanted to get rid of functionism within their society and used radical actions (uprising) to get to their goal.

(Something probably went very wrong with their ideology if at first they just wanted a better society...)

While in some others, the decepticons are either just plain old evil villains (G1), or are obsessed with the goal of galactic conquest (Beast Wars).

(Although in Beast Wars, it's not the decepticons themselves, it's the Predacons (the decepticons sucessors), who after the war, wants to reignite the objective of their ancestors.)

While the decepticons aren't considered very kind, the autobots values justice and freedom and are generally considered good and protects other species as well as theirs (decepticons not included). The autobot faction often appears as a counter to the rise of the decepticons.

Fun fact: When I say there are many different universes of transformers, I really meant it, including a universe where the roles are swapped, Shattered Glass.

The decepticons are no longer a force of evil, but a benevolent faction and the autobots are no longer the heroes, but the villains.

But wait! There's more!

The decepticons and the autobots aren't the only factions/groups in the transformer universe, there are so many more of them, whose origins, once again, varies depending on the universe.

Alright let's check a few of them, first we got the Maximals, the descendant of the autobots (well mostly), who reduced their body mass to be more fuel efficient. I mentionned the Predacons earlier, they also went through this upgrade. Both predacons and maximals have opted for an organic alt-mode; a beast-mode, which means they can transform into animals.

But not all predacons come from a far future where the war ended. In TFP, predacons were ancient dinosaur-like cybertronians who used to roam Cybertron but went extinct... Until the decepticon scientist, Shockwave, found a way to clone and ressurect some of them. (Jurassic park but the dinosaurs are made out of metal and can learn to talk)

In the recent transformers show (Earthspark), a new group (but also a new race) appears, the Terrans. They are transformers who were born on Earth and are made out of earth's material and elements instead of purely being mechanical.

There are a ton more factions/groups/species but I will only mention them (this shrine is getting very long!! CAN'T STOP YAPPING... MUST STOP... SOMEONE STOP M

  • The insecticons
  • The dinobots
  • The minibots/minicons
  • The junkions
  • The sharkticons
  • The terrorcons
  • The pretenders
  • and MOOOOREEE...

(Voice of a host animating a kids show) Some of the factions on this image are fake, can you find the real ones?

So yeah in conclusion, Giant Robots that turn into cars and shit are awesome and you should check it out!!! YAYYYYY
