CHARACTER GUIDE
Age: 25
Species: Ketherean (terranial)
Pronouns: he/him
Erik's a young lad who is going through the worst existential horrors one can face (adulthood).
He's not the strongest nor the most clever, but he finds his way to get through whatever he needs to go through since he's got them street smarts skills.
He's somewhat approachable and friendly (just don't annoy him on the wrong day), and enjoys the company of others, but try to mess with him and he'll come up with the best comeback you've ever heard that you'll still remember 10 years later while you're trying to fall asleep.
He likes "fancy" food, since he had a pretty precarious childhood; he loves being able to enjoy meals that are seen as exotic or expensive. Gaming is one of his favorite hobbies as well, and by gaming I don't mean video games (they don't exist in my world sadly, no fortnite and roblox womp womp) but card games, tabletop games, etc…. He also loves taking bets and gambling stuff, I'm sure that won't cause any problems later.
But be careful he has a very strong competitive spirit and may cheat once or twice to ensure his victory...
Age:85
Species: Mek
Pronouns: he/him
Thaur's a big guy with a passion for cooking, he's always carrying a bag filled with diverse food with him at all times, I mean no one knows when someone will get hungry.... or if he will find a starving traveler on his way.
A lot of organic beings wonder why would a robot who can't eat, nor taste be so invested in cooking, and how he can even be good at it since he can't tell if what he is cooking is good or nah...
To Thaur, cooking is a form of art, he can memorize recipes and based on them he can create original ones, of course it takes a few tries at first, he also need to find a taster since he can't shove food in his small little yellow optic.
He also hopes that someday he'll be able to fulfill his dream of opening his own restaurant, but it's kind of hard when you live in a world where no one takes your skills seriously since you can't even taste what you make... A lot of organics believe that Thaur only learn recipes by heart and is unable to create new ones from scratch, if only they knew how talented he can be...
People are a bit scared of Thaur because he sounds like those sci-fi AI villains with a deep unsettling voice, he wish he could have a friendlier voice but tinkering with his voice modulator could cause some serious damage to other parts of his body since all of his internal circuitry is pretty much all connected together....
Thaur's body wasn't meant to express emotions, and as such, it is very hard for many to read his feelings... He doesn't have eyelids to emote anger or sadness for exemple, only a bright yellow optic... But just because he can't show emotions doesn't mean he doesn't feel any, he's a very emotive guy, even if he has a tendency to hide them due to his stoic nature
He genuinely wish he was born as a ketherean, meks don't feel physical pain, they can't eat nor sleep, they don't feel touch as much as an organic being... Living as a mek is incredibly limiting for Thaur; he feels like he is missing crucial life experiences. He wish he could taste his own meals and be able to kiss his beloved...
During the story, Thaur will develop romantic feelings for a very close friend of his (Lumexia)
Age: 46
Species: Ketherean (terranial)
Pronouns: she/her
Lumexia is a middle aged gal mechanic who specializes in the repairs of electronics devices and other various machinery. She spent most of her early adulthood repairing robots who couldn't find anyone to fix them. Because of her vast knowledge and competency when it comes to operations on robotic organs, she became somewhat of a mek "medic"
She's the person you need if you ever need a repairman, she can fix anything!; broken machinery, broken electrical components, broken devices, broken 7,4 ft tall sapient cook robot man (Wow that last one is Oddly Specific, I wonder if this have any kind of connection with another character of mine hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm)
She can be a little grumpy and may be hard to approach at first but once she gets warmed to someone, she'll become much friendlier.
Lumexia loves cutes things (figurines, plushies, etc) but she isn't really open about that since she is afraid people will mock her for being into "childish" things.
She also happens to be one of my most mentally stable characters of mine, having had a fairly normal childhood with caring parents
Her early adulthood however....................
Age: 23
Species: Ketherean (aetheris)
Pronouns: she/her
Mnelmy is a doctor in training, currently she's doing studies in psychology but doesn't know what career she wants (for exemple: psychologist, therapist, social worker etc...)
The truth is that she doesn't want to be some kind of doctor. You see, it runs in the family, so they regard the profession highly. Her parents pressured her to enroll into a prestigious university in hopes that she would major in a medical field, threatening to stop funding her studies if she didn't...
She picked psychology as a ''haha gotcha!'' to her parents, since it's technically still a medical field, but one that's related to the mind. Mnelmy REALLY can't see herself as a physical doctor; she has no passion or interest in the field, and hates the thought of long stressful nights working on sensitive organs and whatnot. She'd rather be doing literally anything else.Hopefully one day she will become independent from her mother and father, and actually be able to chose a career she wants...
Her favorite hobby consists of flying up to the highest point near her and just sitting there, to watch the horizon and analyze the landscape for any potential threats. (I say sarcastically but she actually does do that, I think she should get tested for anxiety issues). She also loves listening to music and podcasts on the radio, collecting and preserving rare plants, and pulling pranks on Erik, a friend of hers.
She also happens to like girls, but she has 0 knowledge of how to flirt, nor is she able to recognize if another gal is interested in her romantically... For now...
Age: 58
Species: Ketherean (terranial)
Pronouns: he/him
(Reinhart is more akin to an "honorary" main character since he won't always be with the other protagonists. He will join them from time to time, and will sometimes stay for longer periods, but he will always eventually leave to work on other things)
Reinhart's an old man in his late 50s. He used to be a detective but retired not long ago. Despite being in retirement, his workaholic nature is still present. Seems like his thirst to decipher mysteries and old cold cases won't die anytime soon...
Most of Reinhart's friends know what he actually looks like, but strangers often wonder why he hides his face under his hat and his neck warmer… Poor Reinhart has a lot of low self-esteem issues going on. (he's also incredibly shy, but he'll never admit that) Hiding his face makes it easier for him to "play" his role of detective.
He also believes that hiding his identity makes him look more mysterious and intimidating to potential lawbreakers, which is true in some cases, but obviously not all the time... Some can see right through his façade...
However, that is not the main reason why Reinhart spends most of his time hiding his face. When he puts on his detective outfit and his visage cannot be seen, he seemingly "becomes" his detective persona, and gets much more focused on the task at hand...
RReinhart suffers from a severe sleep disorder and is unable to sleep more than 5 hours per night (and he often sleep even less...) This of course impairs him and it's also the main reason why he always looks so tired. It also explains his occasional irritability.
He surprisingly doesn't adhere to the good old "coffee loving detective" trope. Caffeine only makes his heart beat faster, which makes focusing on his work harder. He's more of a tea fan.
Some more info about Reinhart if you're interested: He's autistic but doesn't know it, that's why he doesn't like being perceived and prefers being alone. Social interactions feel like a chess game to him. He likes hiding his face because he doesn't have to force himself to appear "normal" to others. He's not someone who's very emotive facially, anyway; he feels a lot, but his face/expression doesn't often show it
Back in his days, mental health and neurological/neurodevelopmental conditions weren't well known... His insomnia limits some of his daily functions, some days being worse than others, but it doesn't change the fact that he's still very obsessed with his profession. Reinhart's special interest (even though he doesn't know the term for it yet) is criminology, therefore his very own job is his special interest. He loves working through and resolving cases; his work genuinely makes him happy (very rare occurrence amirite)
Age: 8 Months old
Species: Mek
Pronouns: he/they/it
Meks are a species of robot people that are, unfortunately, a single-generation race. They were once non-sapient machines meant to handle a biohazard crisis, a toxic mineral known as "Extradium", until some unknown "awakening" event caused them to slowly develop consciousness, memory and personality.
Many have tried to create new Meks in the decades since, but without knowing the secret origin of their "awakening", they're little more than non-sentient bots...
So what does any of this have to do with this guy? Well, N-A is the first fully sentient mek born in over 75+ years.
N-A is the product of two engineers, one of them being Galgen-Galloway, a mek determined to save his species from extinction.
N-A is around 8 months old but they are not a child; meks are built fully grown, they are closer to adults than childrens, which mean that they obviously don't have the same "childhood" as organic beings. The second they were born, they could talk, think about complex concepts and even process complicated calculations.
During their beginning (around 1-2 months old), they were similar to a teen in mentality, but now they are more akin to an young adult. (They grow so fast don't they?) N-A starts as a naive character, who will unfortunately discover the harshness of the world alone by themselves; poor N-A didn't even know what death was the first month of their existence...
As time goes on, N-A will learn more about his surroundings, the world and its people... Only issue is that he will grow to DESPISE this very planet he was born into.
Many traumatic events have happened to him since he went "online" for the first time, and these experiences have sadly forged a being who has become incredibly resentful and appalled about the state of the world. (wow that kinda reminds me of one of their creator, Galgen cough cough, like father like kid amirite).
But he will meet other people who will change his pessimistic worldview, such as Erik, Mnelmy and their friends. He will grow a bond with these individuals and will slowly understand that not everything is dark and bleak.
(I would also like to note that even though N-A will initially have a lot of hatred towards the world as a whole, a lot of his anger and frustration comes from the lack of kindness and justice in this world)
He very often repress his anger and other negative emotions, very few are aware of the things he's going through *since on the surface he just seems like a guy who's a bit "weird")
N-A will discover hobbies and other fields that will become very important to it. In particular, the works by the philosophical author, Lornesius, were very crucial to its development. They helped it understand concepts like acceptance, stoicism, the absurdity of life etc. and helped it learn how to cope with the overwhelming reality it's found itself in.
Also, what does the name "N-A" even mean? Well, N-A hasn't decided on a name for itself yet, and it's not sure if it even wants one at all... So for the time being, it asks others to refer to it as "N-A" (pronounced "en-nay"), short for "Not Applicable
